Description and History

Built for Smithfield Club cattle shows, 1861-2, architect Frederick Peck. The wrought-iron latticed arched roof by Handyside & Co. is 70 ft high and 125 ft clear span with galleries in aisles designed by H E Coe. First motor show held here 1898. Closed 1939. Used by GPO 1943-71 as international parcels office. Since 1981, converted to trade exhibition centre, ancillary buildings demolished. Its 125 ft clear span. Building purchased in 1976 by Islington Council now Business Design and Exhibition Centre.
