Description and History

Premises of scalemakers - initially George Birch from around 1821 who then sold the business to Thomas Herbert in 1857 before emigrating to New Zealand. The building's facade still shows traces of advertising lettering that once adorned many buildings:

Herbert & Sons moved its operations out of London in 1968 to Haverhill, Suffolk.
