Devonshire Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Wooden construction inside. Brick and pantile. Upper storey has small windows probably to light loft/storage. Nice wooden boarded hoist. Storeys and loft. Water power supplemented by steam 1893 and oil by 1905. Last worked about 1947. Wheel and machinery in situ. Falconer described the site as a 4-storey brick and tile building with a loft built on a virgin site in 1808. The breast shot waterwheel which was augmented in 1893 by a steam engine and in 1905 by an oil engine survives being built mainly of iron with a diameter of 14ft and a width of 7ft. Although the building has been disused for several years much of the machinery and 2 pairs of stones have also survived (Hatcher 1973).
