Riverside warehouses

Description and History of Site:-
Best of riverside warehouses between Blackfriars and Southwark bridges now demolished, remain motley collection of C19th warehouses interspersed with modern office development. Sunlight Wharf and Brooks Wharf perhaps best remaining. On open wharf west of former is lattice girder derrick crane on three concrete pillars, Typical feature of area is narrow lane leading to riverfront; some, like Bull Wharf Lane, retaining setts and granite cartways. On corner Worcester Place/Upper Thames St is hydraulic wall-crane with jigger visible in crane stem. Former Brook's Wharf tea warehouse remains, now Samuel Pepys pub (48 Upper Thames Street)

Very interesting modern refuse handling facility for the City of London to the east at Wallbrook Wharf TQ 32502 80711. It has a gantry crane to load sealed containers to a lighter lying alongside or sitting on the foreshore.
