Old Fire Station, West Norwood

Description and History of Site:-

Victorian fire station originally built in 1881, now converted into the South London Theatre. The fire brigade used horse-drawn vehicles all the time it was based here, before moving to a new larger building at 445 Norwood Road in 1914. It was sold to the adjacent St Luke's Church in 1917 and converted into a parish hall. The conversion was designed by Owen Luder, later to become President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The theatre company staged its first production there in 1967.
