Newton 5th Lock and Bridge No 167

Description and History of Site:-
Also known as Carpenters Lock. Lock and bridge, c.1790. Robert Whitworth, Engineer. Dressed sandstone lock, rebated for wooden gates with coping swept out to the basin at lower end, which is crossed by the small segmental arch of the bridge. This has solid parapets which come to a point in the centre.
