Dacre Banks Mill

Description and History of Site:-
A corn mill in Dacre was first mentioned in a tenancy agreement early in the 17th C . A fax mill was described as newly built in 1806 but may not have been on the same site.

The mill is not shown on Jefferies Map.

Was previously a corn mill and saw mill. Turbines removed some years ago. Wider buildings than others; iron columns along centre. Generated electricity for Summerbridge from the turbine. Long beams probably Colombian pine. Metal-framed paned windows, 20 panes top, 8 pivot. Arched lintels inside. Monolithic sills and lintels. Stone and slate construction. Wheel at one end internal.

Remaining buildings demolished and site cleared prior to 2022. Built around 1800 by Charles Gill as a flax mill. Still operating as 'Nidd Valley Saw Mills' (2015).
