Roall Pumping Station

Description and History of Site:-
Roall Pumping Station. The buildings have been demolished. This late 19th-century brick and stone pumping station belonged to the Pontefract, Goole & Selby Water Board. Since 1957 it had used electric pumps and a standby Ruston Hornsby oil engine but one of the pair of 160 hp A-frame beam steam engines was originally preserved in situ. It was installed by Easton & Anderson in 1891. The beam engine was subsequently removed and now in steam at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum. Water drawn from a bore into the New Red Sandstone strata. In 1914, it was reported that the average daily quantity of water obtained was 700,000 gallons.
