Suspension footbridge across the Murk Esk

Description and History of Site:-
Footbridge with a span of 54 ft (16.46m) across the Murk Esk. Single-span suspension bridge constructed, c.1875, using wrought iron double-headed rails (with rolling marks indicating NER standard). Eye bars form the suspension chains that carry the timber deck. This bridge replaced the original timber horse tramway bridge that was superseded in 1847 by the York & North Midland Railway's new track alignment for steam locomotives, and was demolished in 1858.
