Spofforth Viaduct

Description and History of Site:-
Disused viaduct on the Church Fenton & Harrogate line of the York and North Midland Railway. Five arches over a span of approximately 30m. Exterior in stone, but with the load-bearing segmental arches of brick. Presently (2018) not in very good condition due to significant weathering of the stone and cracking to the north side of the parapet. The line built c1847, closed 1965. The original, and substantial, embankment continues to the north, but the southern continuation has been truncated and removed, with modern housing on the site.
