Ten Acre Reservoir

Description and History of Site:-

Impounding reservoir, recently discontinued and remodelled.Constructed by the Harrogate Waterworks Company in 1875, to feed (via a conduit) a new filtration, storage and distribution facility at Harlow Hill (NYK01792). All these works were conducted under the terms of the Harrogate Waterworks Act of 1869. The earth embankment dam was about 17m its highest point, impounding 150,000 m3 at top water level.

Historically prone to seepage, and representing a somewhat unreliable and increasingly unnecessary source, it was recently decided that the dam should be taken out of service. The reservoir was drawn down in 2018, the dam breached and the area remodelled. The works were completed in 2019.
