Kirkstall Forge Railway Station

Description and History of Site:-
Modern railway station, opened 19 June 2016 by 'Metro', the Passenger Transport Executive for West Yorkshire. Facilities
consist of two platforms linked by a footbridge and lifts. A new footpath was also provided giving pedestrian access from the West. A goods only railway station, presumably then only serving Kirkstall Forge (WYK00132) was very near the site of the present station from 1860. In 1905, extension and realignment of the tracks required the station buildings to be demolished, and at the time it was not considered worth rebuilding the facilities. With the more recent closure, and on-going (2020) redevelopment, of the old Forge site into mixed use, the provision of a new station became financially viable again.
