Description and History of Site:-
The lime kilns at the north dock right were built in 1828 and Lime mortar was used to set the large sandstone blocks for all main parts of the construction; the dock basin, inner wave screen and other original walls. The lime kilns are shown on the first dock construction plans of 1820.
There were 8 lime kilns at the north dock, while another 3 lime kilns which used to stand where the disabled parking bays are were demolished in the 1960s.
