Description and History of Site:-
Over 400 yards long, jack-arch construction, faced with glazed bricks. 1885 by District Railway from South Kensington Station (qv) to former exhibition site on west side of Exhibition Road.
Engineer: Sir John Wolfe Barry / JS McCleary; Contractor: Lucas & Aird.

From original opening, lit by electric light; an early adoption in a public space

A one penny toll was charged until 1908.
