Description and History of Site:-
Sir Marc Brunel's Thames Tunnel (qv) of 1824-43 from Rotherhithe ends here.

Original shaft of 1843 still in use for passenger access. The roof of the station shows the diameter of the Brunel Shaft.

The other end of the Brunel Tunnel is marked by a circular feature behind the Brunel Museum in Tunnel Road, Rotherhithe.
Thames Tunnel opened to pedestrians in 1843. Wapping Station and Tunnel opened for railway traffic on 7 December 1869. Now served by London Overground East London Line trains.
