Description and History of Site:-
Stratford station was built in 1839 by the Eastern Counties Railway, which ran services from London Liverpool Street to East Anglia.
London Underground began running services to Stratford in 1946, as part of the extension and electrification of the Central line to Essex.
In 1999, the station was rebuilt as part of the extension of the Jubilee line to east London, adding three new platforms and a new drivers' depot.
The station was expanded again to accommodate the traffic expected for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Stratford International station (qv) was built adjoining to the north, to serve the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
National railways, London Underground Central and Elizabeth Line services, and the Docklands Light Railway serve the station.
Today, more than 67 million journeys start or end at Stratford station every year.
