Glaisdale Ironworks and Mines

Description and History of Site:-
Glaisdale Ironworks and Mines. Two blast furnaces built by the Whitby Iron Company in 1857 but by 1864 had been dismantled. On private property. Drift mines worked the Top Seam on Glaisdale Rigg connected to the works by tramway through a tunnel. The Main Seam was worked in the valley bottom where the powder house still stands.
