Ingleby Arncliffe Water Tower

Description and History of Site:-
Designed by the York architect Walter Brierley (1862-1926) for Sir Hugh Bell, the tower was part of the water supply system serving the villages of Ingleby Arncliffe and Rounton. There is a commemorative plague above the door while in front of the door are the initials of 'H & FB 1915' for Sir Hugh and Florence, Lady Bell. The design which is typical of the arts and crafts movement, is reminiscent of a church tower with a saddleback roof. Large quoins and strangely affected stonework. Large gargoyles corbelled battlements. Inscription over doorway.

The Blue Bell Inn in the village is also by Walter Brierley.
