Aire Bridge Apperley

Description and History of Site:-
Designed by the Mr. F. Marsden, City Engineer of Bradford, in collaboration with Mr. H. R. Hepworth, County Surveyor of the West Riding this bridge was constructed by Messrs. Lotz and Kier and the West Riding approach by Messrs. R. Naylor and Sons, while the Bradford approach was carried out by the Bradford Corporation by direct labour.

Built in 1932, the bridge superseded the original narrow two span stone bridge and formed part of an extensive scheme of widening roads within the County Borough of Bradford. It now forms part of the A658 Bradford- Harrogate road. The bridge is a good example of the use of reinforced (ferro) concrete structure of five spans varying in length from (7.92m) 26 ft. to (9.75m) 32 ft., it is (47.55m) 156 ft. long and has a (12.91m) 40 ft. carriageway and two (3. 5m)10 ft. foot ways. The approximate cost of construction in 1932 was £18,600.
