Railway Swing Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
Single track swing bridge. Hydraulically operated, with segmental panelled iron sides on a central circular pier.
Built in 1883-4 by the GNR to give access to the new dock basin across the Haven. Largely prefabricated in Derby by Handyside, ironfounders, and assembled on site. The docks opened in December 1884.
