Raithwaite Ironstone Mine

Description and History of Site:-
Raithwaite Ironstone Mine. Site only, traceable from disturbed ground in the Raithwaite valley. Drift mine in the 5ft thick Dogger Seam worked by the Eskdale
Ironstone Company c1855 -1860. The stone was shipped from a timber
jetty the piles of which can occasionally be seen when the sand level is
low.
