Kingsdale

Description and History of Site:-
A full field survey of all quarries in Kingsdale was undertaken by the contributor in 2007 as part of a wider archaeological project and 77 quarries were recorded and photographed. Their sizes ranged from tiny 'lazyman' quarries form which stone was extracted for building nearby walls through quarries that fed lime kilns through several so-called commercial marble quarries and dimension stone quarries to one early 20th-century council roadstone quarry. Most of the sites have no recorded history but exploitation of stone here goes back many centuries. See attached pdf files for known details.
