Description and History of Site:-
Brick building of two parallel four storey ranges probably originally of 1844 but remodelled C20. The rear (north) facade abuts the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Part of the original development of the Globe Iron Foundry which moved to this site in 1844. Described as the works' fitting up shop and (probably) also the engine house. In 1864, much of the Globe foundry was remodelled and partially absorbed into the Tower works immediately to the east. It seems likely that by 1870 this building had been converted for use as a steam grain mill, known as Globe Mill. White's directory of 1881 lists "Smith, S. Globe mill, 8 Globe road, Leeds" under 'Millers' (the listing address of the building was 12 Globe Road). The building is currently (2020) occupied by a Media company.
