Larchfield Works

Description and History of Site:-
In about 1836, Robert Wood established the Larchfield Works (known as Larchfield Foundry from 1840 until 1866), Hunslet, which was well known for many years as Robert Wood and Sons. They built a large number of early stationary engines for use in the neighbourhood of Leeds (including that supplied for the North Lane pumping station (WYK01040) in 1860), and said to have been the first in the district to make compound engines on the McNaught system.

The business was continued by his son William Stewart Wood and later by his son Robert Henry Wood
