Description and History

New station on the Post Office Railway opened in 1965 (replacing the Western Parcels and Old Western District Office Stations the same year.) Construction of the new station necessitated a stretch of new running tunnel, and abandonment of some of the original running tunnel. There is a loco siding, three lifts linking to the surface building, and chutes for post bags, and stairs.

Although authorised in 1913 and commenced by the start of WWI the completed tunnels were used for wartime storage of museum objects until 1919. Contracts were let for completion of electrical and signalling installations in 1924.
