Kirkstall Forge - Leeds

Mural at Kirkstall Forge Station of Betty Beecroft (1748-1812), lessee of Kirkstall Forge from 1779 to 1785. She was an early female industrialist, forming a partnership with relatives Thomas and John Butler and turning around the forge's fortunes, making it a profitable business. At her funeral she was proclaimed as being well known for her ‘industry, economy, integrity, firmness of mind and inviolable attachment to the scripture’.
