Rippon Bros Works - Huddersfield

Built by Rippon for Edgar Lawson Gaunt, born Farsley, 1880. Son of John William Gaunt, worsted spinner and cloth manufacturer. He married Sarah Hainsworth, daughter of Abimelech William Hainsworth and Elizabeth Gaunt, daughter of Reuben Gaunt. By 1901 Edgar had joined the family firm Reuben Gaunt & Sons, Springfield Mills, Bagley Lane, Farsley. Springfield Mill was built by Reuben Gaunt 1864. Later Edgar became a director and in 1935 was living at Hawksworth Hall, Guiseley. He died in 1956. The company closed in 2001.
Another family member, and Rolls-Royce owner, Reuben Dickinson Gaunt, owned Cape Mills, Coal Hill Lane, Farsley, trading under the name John Hainsworth & Sons Ltd, woollen cloth manufacturers. They produced head lining cloth for Rolls Royce cars.
