Description and History of Site:-
City Corporation provided building for long-established fish market in 1830s replacing it with brick and stone fish market by Sir Horace Jones (1875 and after), in use until 1982 when market transferred to West India Docks.
Halls roofed with wrought-iron trusses; basements contain refrigeration equipment, reputedly undefrosted for decades.
Designed for water transport when railways were already bringing most fish, efforts were made to transfer it to Shadwell, 1885 and Caledonian Market site, 1957.
Converted to banking hall ca. 1985.
