High Costa Mill

Description and History of Site:-
3 storeys stone and pantile with kneelers. In 1975, a fish hatchery for Yorkshire River Authority, now (2019) still a fish hatchery but in private hands.

The undershot wheel, c1809, is (was) of interest for its clasp-arm construction where the spokes clasp the axle rather than being morticed into it. Mill building dated 1819 on lintel, though almost certainly incorporating the remains of an earlier building; the associated cottage is said to be cruck-framed. Partly renovated in C20, largely renovated C21.
