Adwalton Brickworks

Description and History of Site:-

Hoffmann kiln, now a restaurant and hotel complex. Next to site of Wire Hall Colliery.Rushforth & Wheatley opened a brickworks adjoining their colliery around 1890. Following the closure of the colliery the company became Rushforth & Co Ltd. The brickworks continued until around 1969 exploiting the shale from a quarry to the east which after the war was replaced by a new one to the west. After closure the quarries became waste disposal sites operated by Biffa, whilst the brickworks became a builders merchants yard operated by Naylor Myers.
Also known as Wyre Hall brickworks, Wire Hall Colliery brickworks, Greystones Colliery brickworks, Rushforth brickworks and Morley brickworks.
