Rippon Bros

Description and History of Site:-

Stone-built four-storey building, large flat windows on the ground floor, used as showrooms by Rippon Bros., with bow windows on the first floor and gables on the fourth floor. Just to the north of the city centre in the commercial district.36-38 North Parade, Penny Bank Chambers, built 1897, were designed by James Ledingham, architect of the adjacent Yorkshire Penny Bank, 1895-8. Rippon Bros moved to no. 36 in 1901, remaining there until 1959. The premises provided a showroom and offices. In 2016 the premises were in use as offices.
