Description and History of Site:-
One of a series of 16 milestones on the Cambridge to London road, measured from the datum point at Great St Mary's Church.
The milestones bear the arms of Trinity Hall college and were erected in 1729 in memory of Dr William Mowse, Master of Trinity Hall 1552-53, and Dr Hare.
The measurements were the work of another college fellow, William Warren, and may be the first true milestones since Roman times.
This is the third stone in the series. The date (now buried) is 1729.
