Bowes Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Wool and worsted spinning mill with two metal water wheels, blacksmiths shop, gas works, out-buildings and two houses for sale in 1847. Purchaser could have machinery at valuation price. Particulars available from Monkhouse & Sons who were carpet manufacturers in Barnard Castle. May have been preparing yarn for carpet manufacture in Barnard Castle Mill.

In 1854 the site is shown as a corn mill and it is reported as having ceased milling in 1920.

In 1923 the weir and wheel are reported as having been used as an early hydroelectric station for Gilmonby Hall
