Description and History of Site:-
The earliest recorded lighthouse on Spurn dates from 1427. In 1769 John Smeaton erected a pair of temporary lights in 1769 and commenced building 2 brick towers 90ft (27.4m) and 50ft (15.24m) shortly afterwards. The low light was washed away c1779 some 3 years after completion. Built on sand the high light 90ft (27.43m) became unstable and although shored up had to be demolished in 1895.

The truncated tower now supports a water tank.
