Hertford Union Canal (Duckett's Cut)

Description and History of Site:-
Hertford Union Canal, built by Sir George Duckett, engineer Francis Giles, under 1824 act. Extends 1.75 miles connecting Regent's Canal at stop lock, with Hackney Cut on Lee Navigation by typical Lea bridge at Carpenters Rd. Accommodation bridges to Victoria Park with their cast-iron ribs and rails date from canal opening, 1830, and three locks 78 ft x 14 ft 6 ins retain their cast-iron 'Regent's Canal' pattern beams. Canal acquired by the Regent's Canal Co in 1855.
