Description and History of Site:-
The District station, completed 1876, was on 1874 extension from Earls Court to Studland St. Junction with 1869 Richmond-Waterloo loop 1/2-mile west. Rebuilt after fire in 1882, again rebuilt 1905 by Leslie W. Green for electrification and as western terminus of Piccadilly Line and yet again 1931-2 when Piccadilly line extended west to Hounslow West and Uxbridge line. Retained earlier northern facade, 1905, which includes names of Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton and District Railways. Site of massive Hammersmith Broadway redevelopment under construction 1990.
