School of Engineering

Description and History of Site:-
Crystal Palace School of Practical Engineering, Crystal Palace Park. Founded 1872 by Crystal Palace Co. on Sydenham site to provide two-year course (mechanical engineering in 1st year and civil engineering in 2nd) with view to proceeding to professional articled pupilage in an engineer's office. Many students left here to work overseas. Two-storey brick building with hipped gable roof survived Crystal Palace fire of 1936.

The School of Engineering is now the Crystal Palace Society Museum.
