Description and History of Site:-
Water fountain erected in 1862 and opened by Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone. The money was raised by public subscription. A full size statue of Sir Hugh Myddelton, the builder of the New River, by John Thomas, stands above two cherubs with urns from which water flowed into two basins. The stature and inscription have suffered from erosion.
