Drinking fountain

Description and History of Site:-
The water carrier drinking fountain was cast at Coalbrookdale, 1861. The Coalbrookdale Co. had its London showroom on site of Unilever House opposite.

The plaque below the statue on the granite pedestal of the fountain states that it was erected by the Metropolitan Free Drinking Fountains Association in July 1861 by the Chairman Samuel Gurney MP. Sculpted by Wilts Bros of London, 'Coalbrookdale' is inscribed on the statue itself.
