Former Hartley's Jam Factory

Description and History of Site:-
Former factory for Hartley's jams, opened in June 1901

The works were built on the site of a former tannery and linoleum factory.

Entry to the factory complex was through impressive wrought iron gates, cast by W. Macfarlane & Co, Glasgow.
In 1959, the company was sold to Schweppes.

By 1962, the factory site at Green Walk had become offices and a distribution centre.

Re-named Hartley-Chivers, the company was sold to Premier Foods in 1981.

Converted into high-end apartments in 2003 with over 200 homes in the four buildings of the Jam Factory complex.

'The imposing buildings and towering chimney, all still bearing the Hartley name, now stand within landscaped communal courtyard gardens with gated entry.'
