Description and History of Site:-
The Gunmakers' Company's Proof House was established here in the reign of Charles I. The present building dates from the early 19th century. Guns and gun barrels were proved, or tested, and marked with the Company's mark.
The Commercial Road Act stipulated the times when the guns could be proved, limiting activities to the early hours of the morning.
