Description and History of Site:-
A timber-framed maltings with square oast house adjacent. Photos of the oast house accompanying a 2023 planning application (subsequently withdrawn) show the oast house to be in an unaltered but poor condition. Its current condition is unknown as it is not publicly accessible.
In the tithe map of 1839, the complex is shown as owned by Sarah Smith a wealthy local landowner. It is leased to Benjamin Toovey, a well-known mill owner and brewer.
Prior to 2023, the maltings were used by a community theatre group. The building was damaged by a fire in 1975
