Ruswarp Mill and Weir

Description and History of Site:-
Original corn watermill on this site 1752. Three storey in brick severely damaged by fire in 1911. Ornate stone cornice with closely spaced dentils. Flat stone lintels with keystones and stone sills.
When surveyed by Hatcher on the 7/11/1973 the mill was described as follows :- Large working brick mill on bank of Esk producing animal feedstuffs. Modern concrete silo of 1946. Three storeys and loft and high steep slate roof. Inscription on road side of building: These mills were erected at the expense of Natha. Cholmley Esq. By Phillip Williams Engineer 1752. Underneath in Gothic script: Aureum Dei Donum Frumentum Molmis. The fruit of the mill is Gods Golden Gift. The mill had a turbine before 1973, In 2012 a 50kW Archimedes screw hydroelectric power turbine was installed in the weir.
