Information panel nearby reads:

'Bridge Mill had its grindstones powered by steam by 1870 but was operated by gas engine by the time it burned down in August 1921. The heat from the fire caused paint to blister at Bridge House across the road. The mill was rebuilt the following year powered by an oil engine and continued to operate as a feed mill until about 1970. It was then used as a furniture warehouse before being converted into flats.'
