Description and History of Site:-
Information panel at Turnpike Bridge reads:
'It was the water mill situated near to this bridge which gave the name Barton Mills to the village as this was the name written prominently on 18th century maps beside the turnpike here. Around 1893, when the Parker Brothers took over this mill, a steam engine had already been added. They converted the mill from grindstones to a roller mill and it continued to operate until the end of the Second World War. It was demolished in 1949 and a new house has recently been built on the site which has been designed to reflect the earlier building.'
