Description and History of Site:-
Power stations of 1921 (closed 1975) and 1934 (closed 1978) both demolished. Two cooling towers (250 feet high) adjacent to Tinsley Viaduct (qv) left standing becoming landmarks until 3am on 24 August 2008 when they were demolished despite attempts to preserve them.
On part of the site, the new Blackburn Meadows biomass power plant (constructed in 2017) is now operational (2018) generating 29 MW of electricity and distributing up to 25 MW of thermal energy to local businesses via a district heating network
