Giles & Goodall wrote: 'Built in 1844 as steam-powered worsted-spinning mill by Merrall and Son, later also of Ebor Mill and Lowertown Shed and Mill. Lees Mill developed into Integrated factory with addition of weaving sheds in c1869. Fire and later alterations to main part of site have obscured nature of mill: original multi-storeyed mill was burnt in 1885, its replacement has been demolished, and c1869 weaving shed survives only as fragment. On lower part of site, across public road, is weaving shed of two phases, both pre-1892, which drew its power from main site and has offices along the road frontage and two large, round-arched wagon entrances.'
Now (2019) a few industrial buildings have been refurbished, but most of the site redeveloped, to residential use.
