Description and History of Site:-
Lifting Bridge (also known as Locomotive lift bridge) crossing the Huddersfield Broad Canal, built in 1865 to replace the earlier turn-bridge that gave its name to the area. It is bridge number 17 on the Huddersfield Broad Canal.

The area around Turnbridge was a focal point for the textile industry and the wide range of trades and businesses set up to facilitate it. The original bridge was a swing or 'turn' bridge; the current one, built in 1865, is a type of unique vertical lift bridge and is Grade II listed.
