Wool Warehouse

Description and History of Site:-
Prominent four-storeyed warehouse with a five sided plan form. Built as a warehouse for Samuel Porter in 1870 and occupied by David Porter and Son, woolstaplers in 1874 and 1887. The architect for the work was Benjamin W. Jackson. During 1894 the building became occupied by Joe Brearley for the purposes of boot and shoe manufacture, continuing for some years into the twentieth century. By 1936 the premises were occupied by Joseph Farrar & Son, a firm of house furnishers, followed by the Co-op and then by Double AA Upholstery who introduced furniture manufacture during the 1990s. A wine merchant now occupies the building.
